Having gone into Orphen with no conception what to request, I was pleasantly surprised from the beginning. I’m not normally a fan of fantasy titles, but there was something about this one that honest demanded I sustain watching.

The record is the highlight here; it’s challenging and mysterious from the get-go and unfolds excellently throughout the series. One of my approved aspects about this series is that it sort of begins in the middle of the account, and it unfolds not unprejudiced forwards, but backwards as well, slowly piecing the past together via flashbacks and revelations.

I found the characters to be arresting and scrumptious. They made me laugh when I needed to, and made me sympathetic at unbiased the apt moments. Most racy is the map things are turned on their head halfway through the series; you’ll secure yourself wondering who’s an enemy and who isn’t.

In the kill, I thoroughly enjoyed this series. It was humorous, intruiging, and dramatic. This is a title that definitely gets overlooked far too much; bewitch my advice and check it out. I highly recommend it.

I wanted to care for this series so badly, and for the most share I did. If you are looking for a clean hybrid-fantasy setting with a pleasant legend – well peruse no further. This is a gigantic anime with battles, romance, comedy and a very frigid rune-bladed sword. The unquantified gushing from the other posters here are proof clear that this is a accepted prove. I won’t go on about the nice animation style, elegant plot-twists, well presented DVD sets, or any of the other bonuses you can read about simply by reading what others here have written. I won’t even mention that the slightly uneven animation and repetitive “computer game” style music hardly matter when seen against the backdrop that is this series’ epic.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Orphen – The Perfect Collection! Click Here

There are two MAJOUR downfalls in this series, and they are mountainous ones. Ones so large it almost makes me want to bawl, because that they debase an otherwise priceless anime experience.

If the main episodes that push the fable forward are heaven, then the filler episodes are hell. Monotonous, insensible and pointless – enough to manufacture me want to throw the DVDs lawful out the window. I’m going to accumulate specific and recommend that any serious anime watcher deliberately skip episodes 4, 5, 6, 11 and 18. These episodes are the bane of this series, and you can skip them without missing any primary region or character development (you may wonder where the annoying tiny purple dog came from, but trust me, you don’t want to know) .

The second jam are the `comic relief’ characters, Volcan and Dortin. Their bizarre appearance and ridiculous characters almost sink this anime. The English Dub made a brave exertion to pass these two off as hobbit/troll type creatures, but there is no hiding the fact that they are completely out of region in this otherwise edgy anime. For droll relief they rely primarily on abusive insults and slapstick, dutifully avoiding anything witty or clever. Don’t acquire me horrible, there are some genuinely comic moments in this series. But they are provided by the main characters doing or saying something that both adds to their character and doesn’t disrupt the atmosphere. For example, Majic’s spell the rock early in the series both contributes to the atmosphere while reminding us how immature his character is at this early stage – I won’t spoil what he does, but it made me giggle, as does Orphen’s response.

Perhaps someday someone will assume this series and edit it into a series of two or three movie length episodes. They can edit out the pointless troll’s jokes (although we may have to leave them in, we can edit out their annoying antics) and the pointless fuller material. Heed my words, that would have the potential to be the perfect anime… until then we have a fun series, a graceful boxed area, chilly cartoon, a flawed masterpiece.

This TV explain, in its first season, is, like “Life,” a police procedural with lots of flavor–in this case, a weak phony psychic who, years ago, talking insultingly about a serial killer on his psychic TV note.

The killer was watching the present, apparently, took offense, and proceeded to execute the guy’s entire family.

After powerful soul searching, our hero end his pseudoprofession and now works with a police agency doing for crimes what Gregory House does for his hospital–solving the cases no one else can solve. He uses his ability to read people and situations that stood him in edifying stead during his stint as a phony psychic.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Mentalist: The Complete First Season! Click Here

Of course, like the cop in “Life” his merry, playful exterior conceals an iron core of permanent, near-psychotic rage. The Mentalist works with the police agency he works for in order to get the serial killer to killed his family, and he has told his boss there, in merry seriousness, that if/when he finds the guy, he will buy him apart in a arrangement Dexter (as in the HBO series) would adore.

All this is backstory. No spoilers, as I promised. There’s remarkable interaction with his boss, her boss, and the three person team that also works with the boss, and they’re all competently played, seemingly ravishing worthy credible as detectives.

So both this and “Life” have:

1. graceful actor in the lead role–with “The Mentalist,” Aussie heartthrob Simon Baker, who every woman appears to accumulate irresistable (according to my wife) .

2. multilayered location, with an ongoing fable arc on top of the case du jour, and evolving relationships among the team members.

3. light and shadow–lots of laughable moments alongside very shadowy stuff indeed. In painting this would be called chiaroscuro (reflect Rembrandt paintings of interiors illuminated by candles) .

If you like “Life” I’m clear you’ll like “The Mentalist” even if the more race of the mill procedurals (all the CSIs for example) don’t appeal to you. I’d also build “Bones” in this category FWIW.

And this is about as grand as we can request until Joss Whedon’s next expose shows up (presumably “Dollhouse” with Eliza Dushku, herself a master of chiaroscuro) .

I am impartial a teenager, and generally not involved in the stuff my parents admire to eye (currently they’re obsessed with “24″), but one evening I decided to choose down with them and check out what they were watching, and it happened to be, “The Mentalist.” It was treasure at first glance.

The Australian-born star, my heartthrob Simon Baker, stars as the coy and undeniably hot guy with gleaming mentalist abilities who “objective pays attention,” Patrick Jane. After criticizing a serial killer on a TV reveal (sorry Simon, but how wearisome can you be??? ), Jane returns home to obtain his family slaughtered by the very killer, Red John, to accumulate revenge on him for his earlier actions on TV. Shy and melancholy to the core, Patrick decides to change his ways and expend his abilities for better purposes, seeking out the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and offering his assist on serious crime cases. The season continues as it sheds some light on Jane’s past and as he grows closer to his novel colleagues at the bureau, yet his obsession with finding Red John does not die.

I found myself intrigued immediately by “The Mentalist.” I can’t quite define it. Something about the note objective clicks, and that’s why it’s become so overwhelmingly common with us viewers. Simon definitely steals the prove, but not only do we esteem him, we feel something for Simon’s character. He hides his afflict of his family’s abolish with a coy, naughty, and cunning face, and though he is all of this, it’s only skin-deep, and in the finale episode, “Red John’s Footsteps”, the camouflage is pulled for a brief moment and we gawk how mad and obsessed Jane is with finding Red John, ready to die himself to solve the dreadful crimes.

This keeps the audience hungry for the next episode every time one finishes, and not only that. This point to is incredibly rare and delicate, because how often do you gain a indicate that you like all the cast members, you delight in the position, it’s got lots of humor, it’s not listless, and it has an awesome writer? Reply? Hardly ever. Even “Ghost Whisperer” and “CSI” score dreary, and “The Mentalist” is a cute, quirky, and gripping unusual present that makes me tumble in appreciate with Simon all over again whenever his face goes on cover.

I can’t wait for these DVD’s to approach out, because they are definitely worth the lift. I absolutely loved the first season, with hardly ever a dry station, and I fair hope that they retain the second season and any seasons after that as qualified, because I’m telling you, if someone screws this reveal up, I will be ready to extinguish. ;P

After years of waiting, Stuart Gordon’s From Beyond is finally out on DVD, and be thankful that it is. Undoubtedly one of Gordon’s (Re-Animator) best films and one of the best H.P. Lovecraft adaptations ever filmed, From Beyond revolves around survivor Crawford (the expansive Jeffrey Combs) of an experiment gone hideously awry. A psychiatrist (Barbara Crampton) however wants to continue the experiment, and returns to the house where everything went unfriendly, along with Crawford and a cop named Bubba (Dawn of the Dead’s Ken Foree) . Naturally, things don’t go very well, but in Gordon’s hands, the otherwise predictable memoir and events are frequently unfavorable, and frequently captivating. There’s plenty of gorey, slimy moments to be had, as From Beyond is finally restored in all it’s uncut glory after years of only being able to perceive it as a butchered, MPAA favorite version that floated around on VHS. The DVD itself has some gargantuan special features as well, including an insightful commentary from Gordon, and a couple featurettes as well which detail the making of the film as well as it’s re-editing for DVD. All in all, it’s so huge to finally have From Beyond in all it’s uncut glory on DVD; and it’s needless to say that if you’re a dependable scare fan, this DVD belongs on your shelf.

Move on to “Planet Earth” for everything this bluray isn’t…

Buy,Download, Or Stream Blue Planet! Click Here

I normally refrain from posting negative reviews in case it’s a request of taste and I may be in conflict with other people in that respect.

However in this case I am shapely definite this is a title to avoid for everybody. Especially when there is such an alternative as Planet Earth which presents a hundred times the divulge and imagery this IMAX adaptation strives to disclose.. and fails..

Buy,Download, Or Stream Blue Planet! Click Here

First of all, this is a very lousy transfer. They didn’t bother remastering the 40 microscopic footage and the “dirt” of the master is visible in every frame. It wouldn’t have taken a sizable team to edit them out. Frankly it’s the most disappointing bluray transfer I’ve seen out of the 40 or more bluray titles I have.

Secondly, the narration, disjointed topics, duration of many of the residence imagery which gallop on for minutes without any movement contribute to a mindnumbingly wearisome viewing experience. You’ll leer you’ll be hardpressed not to forward to the next scene every other cramped (and let’s admit it, there are not that many to open with)

There’s also an older similar bonus segment in the bluray, with even worse visuals and mostly resembling SD instead of HD in many places..

In short, I’d strongly suggest you skip this bluray in favor of the heavenly Planet Earth if you’ve not grabbed it yet.

I got this for my 4 year customary son’s birthday last year because he has a fascination with air planes and I was trying to gain him eager in the location program. Let’s fair say when I first played it, even my husband stopped what he was doing and came over and sat down. We have a titanic camouflage TV and it makes you feel like you are really there! The sounds and colors are knowing. And even when there is no sound, the sights are impartial so fabulous you don’t need it- I judge that’s share of it’s magic. Maybe it’s objective that dwelling is such an unknown and elusive state, but when it shows the belief of our planet from residence you fair pick up goosebumps. This is a fantastic dvd to pull out on those rainy/snowy days. No matter how many times we have watched it, it tranquil evokes a sense of fear and reverence.

The Graduate is available for streaming or downloading.

Click Here to Stream or Download The Graduate

The Graduate is a stout film and I grow to admire it more with each viewing. Everything is nearly perfect about it. The script, Mike Nichols’ direction, the performances of Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft and Katherine Ross, the music of Simon and Garfunkel. It’s comical yet dramatic, fascinating and profound all at the same time. A very scrumptious film all around. Dustin Hoffman has rarely been better than in The Graduate, although he has certainly given many other beautiful performances (Midnight Cowboy, Rain Man, Kramer Vs. Kramer) . However, even more than those pictures, Hoffman will always be remembered for The Graduate and his portrayal of an awkward young man trying to accept a have on his life.

Also worth noting in particular is the direction of Mike Nichols. He truly gives the film a unusual visual style to create it an experience rather than honest a comedy/drama. Stamp the opening credits with Hoffman on an airport gripping sidewalk plot to the tune of Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence”. Nichols’ uses cuts very interestingly in several scenes such as the scene where Benjamin jumps up on his raft in the pool, and lands in bed with Mrs. Robinson. He also uses zooms to huge finish throughout the film. Nichols’ Best Director Oscar for this film was well-deserved. I assume that Hoffman’s performance should have won also, as well as the screenplay by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry.

One other thing that I must mention is that The Graduate absolutely must been seen in its fresh aspect ratio! If you’re not watching a widescreen version, then you’re not watching The Graduate. The film was shot in the Panavision process with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Mike Nichols makes extraordinary utilize of the 2.35:1 frame, so the film will be absolutely botched in pan and scan. If you observe The Graduate in full-screen pan and scan, you’re really, really missing out. The visual impact of the film will be irreparably damaged.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Graduate! Click Here

The DVD is adequate, but this film deserves remarkable better. The disc is labeled a special edition, but it’s really too skimpy to be that. At very least you’re getting a widescreen version of the film. However, the transfer is not enhanced for 16:9 televisions. What we need is a fully remastered 16:9 transfer which would be immensely valid. The represent quality is magnificent, but could be so grand better. It’s really glorious what contrast a ticket unique remastered 16:9 transfer can produce for an older film like this. Unbiased study at the current DVD of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. The film also deserves better supplemental materials. A better documentary and a commentary by the filmmakers would be vast. A seperate commentary by Dustin Hoffman would be even better. I’m convinced that someday The Graduate will receive a qualified DVD edition, and I will wait until then to choose it.

Looks like MGM finally is giving “The Graduate” a grownup DVD.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Graduate! Click Here

The Mike Nichols film has suffered through the DVD era so far, represented by a series of double-dip issues that perpetuated the same sorry source materials: grainy report, grating audio — the typical first-generation DVD blahs.

Here comes “The Graduate: 40th Anniversary Edition,” due Sept. 11. Fox’s specs point to 2.35:1 widescreen with DTS and Dolby Surround. This appears to be in legal widescreen. (The previous DVDs’ version apparently was created by throwing letterboxing atop the full-screen version. Seems the guy who was so expansive on plastics got into the home video business.)

Check out the unique extras:

* Commentary by Dustin Hoffman and Katherine Ross

* Commentary by director Nichols and Steven Soderbergh

* Retrospective documentary that interviews “Graduate” write Buck Henry, producer Lawrence Turman, Richard Roeper and some random others.

* “Coming of Age: The Making of The Graduate” featurette

* “Would You Like Me To Seduce You: The Seduction Scene Revisited” featurette

Along with some odds and ends ported over from the older discs.

Disc 2 has a edifying surprise: Simon & Garfunkle’s soundtrack, in CD accomplish.

I’ll be revisiting the film for Hoffman’s sonic bid of a breakout performance; the “Mrs. Robinson” song and seduction scene; and Ross’ beautifully naturalistic presence. Koo-koo-ka-choo.

I will always be a stout fan of the two share film version with Derek Jacobi and Sir Alec Guiness, now generally only found on old-fashioned video tape. This unbelievable fresh miniseries does however acquit itself very nicely. Shown earlier in the UK, the acting by Matthew Macfadyn (of Pride and Prejudice fame) captures the well-intentioned and kind hearted Arthur Clennam perfectly. Equally impressive is Claire Foy as the brave and decent Minute (Amy) Dorrit. Detached the best may be the character portrayed by Tom Courtenay, William Dorrit, “the father of the Marshalsea” the renowned debtors’ prison. The series is burly of very strong supporting performances, it would choose far too long to list the many astounding actors and actresses who are found in every scene.

The indicate follows a very typical Dickens residence of slowly developing mysteries and strangely interwoven relationships. Shrimp Dorrit was born inside a debtors’ prison and has lived her entire life working unendingly and without complaint to effect her father’s decades long imprisonment there more bearable. She is the first child born there; this fact and his archaic stature as a gentleman gives him an informal social superiority inside that he enjoys and uses as possible to his personal attend. The arrival in London of Arthur Clennam from China to section with his mother the news of his father’s death, pushes an already racy tale into many surprising turns. Rich and unpleasant, top-notch and unpleasant, people of all social circles gather themselves pulled into confronting their changing fortunes. Some who derive themselves well-off deal with their fresh site far less well than those dealing with adversity.

Dickens is telling a anecdote far too reach to his absorb with the theme of these families forced to inspect many generations live slack prison walls for the want of a few pounds. The myth is one of his strongest and this series tells it honestly and with an astonishing strength of cast and script.

I only recently read Shrimp Dorrit, and it is my original well-liked Dickens unique. The legend of Amy Dorrit, an unprejudiced girl born in debtor’s prison, is a incredible chronicle fleshy of ups and downs, trials and tribulations, death and romance. As with many Dickens books, it literally has a cast of thousands, and this production follows most of the storylines from the book quite faithfully. I impartial watched this on the internet, and I plan this version was sensitive to the material and did a obedient job of keeping the characters gripping and legal while obviously having to shorten Dickens’ voluminous descriptions into shorter episodes. The sage is a bit of a soap opera with plenty of terrible luck and broken hearts lying around. However, it totally works for me. When I read the book, I actually couldn’t build it down and devoured it in a couple of days. This movie was the same arrangement. I couldn’t halt watching it or wait until the next episode. At the destroy, I was sitting in front of my computer crying. It is objective a glorious chronicle, well-scripted, beautifully acted, and animated throughout. I haven’t ordered my copy yet so I can’t yell to any issues with the loyal dvd yet, and I will admit that I have thus far been unable to sit through the 1988 version. I want to like it since I’ve heard so many raves about it (and I care for Derek Jacobi–he’s my all time well-liked Hamlet) but it moves very slowly and ploddingly to me, and I impartial lose interest. So I highly recommend this version if you like Dickens at all or if you like any of the actors because the cast (Matthew Macfadyen and Claire Foy especially) do a pretty job. UPDATE: I received my dvd from Amazon and am thrilled to have purchased it. I had seen it on the internet and on Masterpiece (I’m in the US) and the episodes on the dvd are a bit different from what was shown on PBS. The dvd space consists of 4 discs in a widescreen format with 14 episodes coming in at a whopping 452 minutes and includes an challenging “making of” feature with info. about Dickens himself as well as the film’s production. I’m dazzling positive I saw a scene or two here that was missing on PBS, plus I got the widescreen format that I didn’t bag on my tv. A word of caution: the episodes demolish in cliff-hangers that develop it almost impossible to go to bed without watching “fair one more episode.” My husband and I both worship it and have already recommended it to several people we know. This is a broad movie that will get a trustworthy addition to your home dvd library.

Unfortunately, it’s not going to be that easy. “Bleach: The Rescue” kicks everything about this brilliant anime up a notch — lots of blood, sword-fights, a fiery climax at the execution grounds, and some amazing character development. But the best part is that the treacherous conspiracy merely hinted at in prior episodes, which sparks a minor civil war within the Seireitei.

Yoruichi starts the badly-wounded Ichigo on a special new training regimen — to rescue Rukia, he must achieve achieve bankai (the ultimate release of a zanpakuto) in three days. In the meantime, Uryu has encountered the most horrendous of Soul Reapers, who is responsible for the death of a loved one, and Captain Hitsugaya is confronted by an old friend who tries to kill him — accusing him of murdering Captain Aizen.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bleach Uncut Box Set, Vol. 3: The Rescue! Click Here

But the chaos really starts when Rukia’s execution day rolls around: mass murder is revealed, captains turn against one another, and Renji fights a devastating battle against the implacable Byakuya. Ichigo appears on the execution hill with devastating new power — intent on rescuing Rukia and defeating her brother once and for all. But when he seems to be losing, a horrific new change comes over him.

And in the meantime, the conspiracy that’s ripping apart the Soul Reapers is revealed — the identify of the Big Bad and his sidekicks, the reason he wants Rukia dead, and how many people he’ll coldly destroy to get what he wants.

“Bleach: The Rescue” is a turning point for the entire series — everything before it has built to this point, and everything in the future will spring from it. For an action anime, it is also quite heavy on the plot as it sets up the Big Bad: faked murders, real murders, conspiracies, hypnotic tricks, betrayals, a clever triple-cross perpetrated by Gin Ichimaru, and Urahara’s hidden motive in helping Rukia.

There’s also lots of brilliantly explosive action using ice dragons, black fire, razor-sharp cherry blossoms, exploding Soul Reapers, a giant bone-snake, and a firebird the size of a submarine. The action only serves to underscore the tension that is building throughout the entire season, until it explodes on Sokyoku Hill. It’s also got solid dialogue, some quiet moments for Ichigo’s pals (hanging out in prison) and some flashbacks to Renji, Rukia, Kira and Momo’s days at the Academy.

Fortunately, all this dark stuff is speckled with funny moments like Ichigo’s relaxation in a healing spring (”I AM GOING TO DROWN YOU!”), and an entire episode in which the characters unwind and recover after the events of “the rescue.”

Our Hero really shows his stuff in this season — Ichigo puts his life on the line to reach an incredible level of spiritual power, and rescue Rukia no matter what happens. Too bad he turns out to have a freaky dark side (and Johnny Yong Bosch has a brilliant demon cackle). And Uryu inadvertently gets to the bottom of his grandfather’s death, and goes to devastating lengths to get revenge for what happened to him.

But most of the characters get to shine in this, although Chad and Orihime are somewhat neglected: the Yoruichi-obsessed Soi Fon, the kindly Ukitake and his best buddy Kyoraku, the happily hyperaggressive Zaraki, boy-genius Hitsugaya, and the fusty and arrogant Head Captain Yamamoto (among many others). We also learn how far Renji will go for Rukia, as well as the true reason why Byakuya has been so cold and seemingly cruel.

“Bleach: The Rescue” is a brilliant arc of action-packed, tightly-wound anime, with a shocking twist at the core of the story. Definitely a must-see — especially for everything that comes later.

This third box set has the final episodes of the Rukia rescue story-arc saga, and it’s greatly entertaining as you see Ichigo and his friends battle the captains and their subordinates of the seireitei. The action is fast paced and entertaining to watch and seeing the hidden agenda of one of the characters come to light will shock many on who it really is, I feel that not only the action and battles that make Bleach such a great series but many of the characters of the show grow on you as well, and that is what truly makes a great series when you see a character you like prevail and cheer them on to victory. The extras are a nice touch as well seeing some of the English voice cast during their takes, and some commentaries with a live plushy Kon in the U.S.A. as well as the standard sneak peeks and textless intro/ending songs. Again the animation is clear and sharp no distortions, blurriness, or skips to talk of and the cast for both the Japanese/English crew were of course great VIZ Media like Funimation Corp seem to know just which actors/actresses to get for their shows. So if you’ve already gotten the first two box sets the third one is awaiting you…
